SLIDELL ART HOUSE

At the Art House in Slidell, we paint and decorate boxes for our deployed soldiers. Other personal art projects can be done there as well. Information reminders are sent out by email once a week.

Some painters paint free hand, some use stencils or tracings, or stamps; all are available at the Art House. We have lots of helpful ladies as well as a file of reference images, ideas and tracing paper. We have lots of materials... paint brushes, acrylic paints, permanent markers, pencils, rulers, glitter glue etc.

We have bottled water and a microwave for hot water for tea, coffee or cocoa. Feel free to bring your beverage of choice. Some painters stay for the full time, some drop in for a shorter time or even just to visit a bit.

Once a month the Slidell Ladies for Liberty group fill the decorated boxes with treats and supplies and then ship the boxes to our local deployed troops. If you know of a local deployed soldier, just let us know and we will be glad to add them to the list to receive monthly boxes while deployed.

Recently a few of the painters are painting on 80+ pound paper, cut to size 5.5 inches by 11.5 inches. When the painted panels are finished and dry, we glue the paintings to the outside of the boxes. This works well for those who like to work at home and who like to work on a smoother surface. The cardboard box is not the best surface on which to paint.

Please come by whenever you can... we have no requirements. If the times below do not work for you, you can choose a time and day and we can plan a session just for your group. 12 to 14 people fit well in the space we have available.

As for the boxes, we just do what we can to send a smile and joy to our local soldiers overseas.
